In Memory

Alvin Julian Lohr - Class Of 1977

Alvin "Al" Julian Lohr died on Sunday, March 24, 2013, after a 15-month battle with pancreatic cancer. He died quietly in his home surrounded by his family.

Al was born on November 6, 1958, in Norfolk, Virginia.

He grew up and lived most of his life in Charlottesville, Virginia. He received his diploma from Albemarle High School.

He established a transmission and auto repair business, Action Automotive and Transmission, Inc., when he was but 21 years old. This business still thrives today as a local and family owned business. Al worked, lived, and breathed for his shop. In fact, many have said that it was his shop that kept him from giving up on his battle with cancer so soon. Al's enthusiastic spirit will continue to guide us daily.

His family includes his father, better known as Pop's, Edward Junior Lohr; and sister, Terry Lohr Urbsis of Ruckersville, Virginia; half-brother, Donald David Dixon of Grandy, North Carolina; and half-sister, Sylvia Ann Herring of Ruckersville, Virginia.

Al was continuously surrounded by other family and friends and was constantly making new friends every day.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2013, at the Charlottesville Elk's Lodge, 389 Elk Drive, Charlottesville, Virginia. The family will receive family and friends immediately following the service at Riverside North Diner, 1770 Timberwood Boulevard, Charlottesville, Virginia. There will not be interment as Al's personal preference was to use the Cremation Society of Virginia.
