Howard Edward Huffman, 42, of Ruckersville, Virginia passed from this world Friday, March 31, 2006, after a prolonged illness. He was the only son of the late Captain Richard Gregg Huffman and Janet Allen Huffman.

He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Douglas Atkinson Jr. of Richmond, Virginia; his sister, Elizabeth Anne Huffman of Troy, Virginia; paternal grandfather, Mr. Richard Norman Gregg of Dayton, Ohio; cousins, Mr. Frank Bingham McGinley Jr. of Savannah, Tennessee, Mrs. David Taylor of Dyersburg, Tennessee, The Honorable Judge Charles Creed McGinley of Savannah, Tennessee, and Mr. Charles Thomas McGinley III of Alamedo, California.

Howard graduated from Albemarle High School, PVCC and Virginia Commonwealth University. He was pursuing a Master of Arts Degree from Old Dominion University while substitute teaching in Albemarle County Schools at the time of his death.

A faithful member of the Catholic Church, Howard was active with the Knights of Columbus, serving the Fr. Justin Cunningham Council #11342 as treasurer. He held the highest position of the council as Grand Knight at the time of his death. He was an active supporter of the Republican Party, working diligently wherever needed.

A celebration of his life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 22, 2006, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Charlottesville.

Howard's family extends special appreciation to several life long friends, Don and Ester Burch, Ingrid Pors and the late Heinz Pors and former teachers, Judy Barnes and Patricia Bottom Delany, supporters of Howard since elementary school.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations be made to Catholic charities, in loving memory of Howard, a kind and gentle man, who always worked to help others in the mission of giving true grace.
