Danny Lee Shafer Sr., 51, died peacefully at his home. As he sees the light, he walks into heaven, A new celebration of new life begins. He departed this life on Thursday, November 13, 2008, in Pensacola, Florida. He was born on April 7, 1957. 

He was preceded in death by two nephews and two grandnephews; and his late father, James Robert Shafer.

He is survived by his mother, Dolores Shafer Via and stepfather, Forest H. Via of Pensacola, Florida.

When he was a little boy, he moved from Oakland, California, to Charlottesville.

He graduated from Albemarle High School.

He is survived by one son and two daughters, Danny Lee Shafer Jr. and his wife, Isabel, of Seattle, Washington, Sonya Shafer and Tesia Shafer of Staunton; an ex-wife, Theresa S. Shafer of Stuarts Draft; five brothers, James Lee and Pat Shafer of Esmont, Robert and Frances Shafer of Ruckersville, Harold Lee and Patricia Hyde of Crozet, Roy Edward and Tammy Shafer of Stanards-ville and Forest N. Via of Pensacola, Florida; one sister, Blanche and Larry Snow of Palmyra; many nephews and nieces. He will be very much missed and not forgotten. He will always be remembered in the hearts of family and friends.

Trahan Family Funeral Home in Pensacola, Florida, is in charge of arrangements.
