Deborah Sue Davis - Class Of 1975

Deborah D. Hunt, age 61, died on November 25, 2018, after a ten-month battle with pancreatic cancer.

Debbie primarily grew up in Geer and Stanardsville, Virginia. She attended Greene County schools before moving to Charlottesville and graduating from Albemarle High in 1975. Her education continued at Longwood University, Dabney Lancaster Community College and Chamberlain School of Nursing where she earned a MSN degree. She was a member of Ivy Creek Methodist Church in Charlottesville.

As a little girl, Debbie had a love for animals which continued throughout her lifetime. She had a menagerie wherever she lived that included dogs, cats, goats and guinea hens. Then, there is Minnie the Beagle, who kept Debbie company and comforted throughout her illness. This beagle, according to Debbie, was and is "the cutest dog in the world."

In 1980, Debbie married Albert M. Hunt Jr., who was a Marine. With the military and other career opportunities, they were fortunate to live in several states from Hawaii to Maryland. Wherever they were, Debbie was involved in nursing and helping people.

Once they settled in the piedmont of North Carolina, 23 years ago, she joined the staff of Alamance Regional Medical Center in Burlington. She quickly became a leader and was appointed director of several units. For the past four years, she was director of the emergency department where she and her team received many accolades. She was very proud when Alamance earned the distinction of being in the Top 100 hospitals in the nation. She loved her work and teammates. In addition to her career, family was always the most important.

Debbie was the daughter of the late Chester F. Davis and Maxene Davis Patterson and sister of the late Glenn Deane.

She is survived by her stepmother, Frances Davis. Also surviving is her loving husband of 38 years, Al. Left to cherish her memory are sons, Daniel and Foster, Foster's wife, Sarah and newborn son, Davis Max Hunt. Also, surviving are her sister, Rita Moore and nephews, Mark Moore, Kevin Moore, and Robert Deane.

A service honoring Debbie was held in Burlington, N.C. on November 30, 2018. Her journey will end with a service at Ivy Creek Methodist Church, 674 Woodlands Road, Charlottesville, on Saturday, December 8, 2018, at 11 a.m. Interment will be private at Monticello Memory Gardens.
