Joan Ellen McGraw (Pomeroy) - Class Of 1972

 

Joan McGraw Pomeroy, 52, passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2007, at her home in Jupiter, Florida, after a courageous battle with cancer.

"Joni" was born July 11, 1954, in Quantico, Virginia.She was the daughter of Betty, R. Askew of Gordonsville, and the late Lt. Col. (retired) Thomas F. McGraw Jr.

She is survived by her husband, Ralph H. Pomeroy; and daughters, Erin P. Bailey and her husband, Zach, and Lisa Pomeroy, all of Jupiter, Florida; three sisters, Susan McGraw of Gordonsville, Sally M. Godfrey and her husband, Greg, of Charlottesville and Catherine M. Jones and her husband, Rob, of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania; one brother, Thomas F. McGraw III and his wife, Trish, of Keswick; and aunt and uncle, Anne and Clarence Sweets of St. Louis, Missouri; four cousins; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition, she is survived by her mother-in-law, Helen A. Pomeroy of Sunderland, Massachusetts; and sisters-in-law, Beverly Mason and Jane Kaminskas, also of Sunderland, Massachusetts.

"Joni" was a 1972 graduate of Albemarle High School and a graduate of the University of Virginia's Piedmont Extension School of Nursing. She practiced nursing for many years at St. Mary's Hospital in West Palm Beach, Florida, and most recently at Good Samaritan Hospital, also in West Palm Beach.

A private memorial service will be held Sunday, March 11, 2007, in Jupiter, Florida.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Hospice of Palm Beach County, Palm Beach, Florida or the American Cancer Society.
