Charles Augustine Lewis - Class Of 1968

Charles Augustine Lewis, 67, quietly transitioned from labor to reward on Thursday, March 8, 2018, at his residence in Madison, Va.

He was born on May 6, 1950, to the late Sarah Bernice Mallory and James Philip Lewis.

Charles was a graduate of Albemarle High School. He attended Piedmont Community College where he studied sociology. In 1969, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and trained as a mechanic.

Charles was a very talented artist, and his hobbies included collecting classic cars and horticulture. Charles joined Chestnut Grove Baptist Church at an early age and was still an active member at the time of his passing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, James Lewis Jr. and James Lewis.

Charles leaves to cherish his memory a devoted daughter, Christy S. Bright of Stanardsville, Va.; one grandson, Marques Bright; two brothers, Richard and Jon (Shirley) Lewis both of Gordonsville, Va.; three sisters, Ronalda and Sarah Lewis of Madison, Va., and Cynthia Lewis of Gordonsville, Va.; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. He also leaves a close friend, Joe Johnson; and special cousin, Dave Perrineau.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 17, 2018, at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church, Brightwood, Va., at 11 a.m. with a celebration of Charles life to begin at 12 p.m. Inurnment will follow at the church cemetery.
