John Mason Sprouse, Sr., of Palmyra, began his eternal life with his Savior on Sunday, June 24, 2007. John's earthly body lost its battle with cancer just days before his 60th birthday. God again showed his grace and mercy by taking John peacefully in the morning with his loving wife by his side.

John has been reunited in Heaven with his mom and dad, Tom and Virginia Sprouse; his brothers and their wives, James and Roslyn Sprouse, and Tom and Barbara Sprouse; as well as a host of other family members and friends.

John grew up in Ivy and graduated from Albemarle High School. He recently retired from Kluge Children's Rehabilitation Center. He was a member of Fluvanna Baptist Church.

He is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 42 years, Gwen Pace Sprouse; two daughters, Beth Barringer and her husband, Stacy, and Veronica Harris and her husband, Steve; one son, John Mason Sprouse Jr.; and six grandchildren, Anthony Sprouse, Joshua Barringer, Samantha Harris, Mason Barringer, Jessica Sprouse and Amanda Harris.

He is also survived by many other loving family members and two very special friends, Betty and James Easton.

A funeral service will be conducted 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2007, at Fluvanna Baptist Church, with the Reverend Alan Acree officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2007, at the Teague Funeral Home.

The family would like to thank the many outpourings of love shown to them during John's illness. May God bless you all.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Fluvanna Baptist Church Building Fund, 7454 W. River Road, Scottsville, VA 24590, or the Hospice of the Piedmont, 2200 Old Ivy Road, Suite 2, Charlottesville, VA 22903.
