James Bruce Toms, 65, of Charlottesville, Virginia, departed this life on Thursday, June 14, 2012.

He was born on August 27, 1946, to the late James Peyton Toms and Annie
Elizabeth Toms. In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by many special family members.

Bruce is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Carolyn; his son, Jeff and his wife, Lori; and his two cherished grandchildren, Paige and Brady Toms. Bruce, known to many as "Poppee" had a passion for sports and could almost always be found walking the fairways of a local golf tournament or playing games with family and friends. He will be missed by his friends at Stellar One Bank, Martha Jefferson Hospital, and Jefferson National Bank. Flowers are welcome or donations can be made in Bruce's memory to The First Tee of Charlottesville, 1400 Pen Park Road, Charlottesville, VA 22901, or The American Cancer Society, 1445 Rio Road East # 104, Charlottesville, VA 22901. Family will receive friends on from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Sunday, June 17, 2012, at Hill and Wood Funeral Home.
