In Memory

John David Falwell - Class Of 1963

John David Falwell, 74, suffered a life ending heart attack on Sunday, May 20, 2018.

He was born on April 18, 1944, in Charlottesville, to Charles Waddell and Hazel May (Pugh) Falwell.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Loretta Camille (Branham)Falwell.

He is survived by his two children, John David Falwell II, of Daytona Beach Florida and his daughter, Samille Nicole Waddy (Benjiman) of Spotsylvania Virginia; his one brother, Dan Falwell (Theresa); his nephew, Tim Falwell (Stephanie); and his grandchildren, whom he loved dearly, Cole, Clay, Taylor, Taryn, and Clint Waddy, and John D. Falwell, III.

David graduated from Albemarle High School in 1963 where he played football, ran track, and was a member of the band among other activities. After high school he attended Iowa State University for 2 years before transferring to Murray State University where he graduated in 1968.

He worked a variety of jobs throughout his life to include being a school teacher, a grocery store attendant, and worked at the North Anna Power Plant during construction. He retired from the University of Virginia Facilities Management Department after 20 plus years of service. After retiring he spent most of his time as a devoted granddad. A title he dearly loved. He particularly enjoyed watching his grandchildren at their athletic and academic endeavors.

David requested that a portion of his ashes be placed at the gravesite of his paternal grandparents in Alberene, at the gravesite of his maternal grandparents in Batesville, at the gravesite of his wife and parents, in Rockgate Cemetery (Crozet), and the remainder be placed in the lake at his favorite spot so that as he told his grandchildren whenever they went swimming he would already be there waiting for them.

At his request no formal funeral services will be held. At a later date a celebration of life will be held at his daughter and son-in-law's home at Lake Anna at his favorite spot under the shade tree by the water. Dad you will be greatly missed. Your family will always remember and love you forever.
