In Memory

James Milton Haney - Class Of 1962

James "Pops" M. Haney, 74, of Charlottesville, passed away on Thursday, September 20, 2018.

James was born on May 19, 1944, in Charlottesville, Va., to the late Ivy Eugene and Elva Mae Haney.

He was a graduate of Albemarle High School. James was a veteran of the U.S Navy, where he was stationed in Long Beach, Calif., on the USS Alfred Cunningham, and did a tour of duty in Vietnam. James retired from Verizon as a Telephone Communicator, where his work led him to many different states.

He met his wife, Marilyn, in Syracuse, N.Y., and they eloped. From there, they travelled to Pennsylvania, Texas, and Florida, eventually resettling in Charlottesville. Their marriage was a celebration of 47 years. James loved fishing and restoration of old, antique cars. He considered himself to be a "master tinkerer." His greatest love, however, was for his family, son, grandchildren, and many friends. He will be remembered as a great jokester.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by several aunts and uncles.

James is survived by his wife, Marilyn R. Haney; son, Brian W. Haney (Rebecca Fisher); grandchildren, Brandon and Brianna Haney; brothers, Gene Haney (Gail), Phillip Haney (Lynn), Gary Haney (Barbara), Keith Haney (Sheryl), and Marshall Haney (Jing); sister-in-law Linda Rodden (Chris); as well as several uncles, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 25, 2018, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Teague Funeral Service in Charlottesville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Charlottesville-Albemarle Rescue Squad or the Charlottesville Albemarle SPCA. Condolences may be sent to the family through www.teaguefuneralhome.com.
