Harry Lyle Garth Jr - Class Of 1961

Harry Lyle Garth Jr., 75, of Charlottesville, died at his home on Wednesday, October 17, 2018.

Son of the late Harry and Maxine Garth, he is survived by his wife, Betty Ann; his daughters, Gilie Garth and Melissa Suttle and her husband, Rick; and his beloved grandsons, Austin Thatcher and Nick Suttle. He is also survived by his sisters, Mary Lamb and her husband, Larry, Lucy Huff and her husband, Rob, and Jann Whitten and her husband, Dan, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Garth graduated from Albemarle County High School in 1961 and joined the U.S. Coast Guard, serving four years based in Woods Hole, Massachusetts. During his last two years of service, most of his duty was on the Nantucket Lightship.

He owned the White Spot Restaurant for ten years and ended his working career at Southern States Petroleum, retiring in April of this year. An avid golfer, fisherman, and gardener, Mr. Garth was a lifelong member of Olivet Presbyterian Church.

A Memorial Service will be held at Olivet Presbyterian Church, 2575 Garth Road, Charlottesville, at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, October 23, 2018.
