Brenda E. Thompson, 67, of Charlottesville, died Saturday, May 24, 2008, at her home.

Born in Charlottesville on February 2, 1941, she was the daughter of the late John F. and Thelma Crawford Thompson.

Ms. Thompson was retired from the University of Virginia, where she was a computer programmer.

Brenda was a kind and generous spirit who was always thinking of others. She was a sponsor of many children through the Christian Children's Fund and will be long remembered for her quick wit and her great sense of humor. Brenda also faithfully served our country in the United States Army

She is survived by her best friend and long time companion, Elaine Cantrell; her sister, Sandra T. Shifflett and her husband, Fred, all of Charlottesville; two brothers, Ron F. Thompson and his wife, Cho, of St. Paul's, North Carolina, Larry G. Thompson of W. Augusta, Virginia; her uncles, Al Crawford of Crozet, Virginia, Walter Crawford and his wife, Lilliana, of Charlottes-ville; her very special nieces and nephews, Charlene Kaufman and her husband, Tom, of Charlottesville, Fred Shifflett Jr. and his wife, Ginger, of Marengo, Iowa, Mark T. Shifflett and his wife, Tammy, of The Woodlands, Texas, Allena Thompson of Raleigh, North Carolina, Brett Thompson of W. Augusta, Virginia; six great nieces and nephews; her "adopted daughter and grandson, Mary-Beth Shelar and Tony of Charlottesville; many cousins including a special one, Bev Crawford of Irwin, Pennsyl-vania, and her beloved Yorky "Trouble".

Interment will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, May 29, 2008, at Holly Memorial Gardens. Pastor Jeff Villio will be officiating.

An informal memorial gathering to celebrate the life of Brenda will be from 3 until 5 p.m., Thursday, May 29, 2008, at the Teague Funeral Home, 2260 Ivy Road, Charlottesville.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made in Brenda's name to the First Christian Church Building Fund, 1032 Linden Avenue, Charlottesville VA 22902, Albemarle Rescue Squad, Post Office Box 160, Charlottesville, VA 22902 or a charity of your choice.
