Samuel Patteson Clarke (1966)
He was born in Charlottesville, Virginia, on July 18, 1941, to the late Guy N. Taylor and Ruby Holloway Taylor. Hugh attended Albemarle County schools and graduated from Albemarle High School in 1959. He attended The College of William and Mary, graduating in 1963. He received his Masters Degree in 1965 from George Washington University.
He joined the staff of Washington and Jefferson College in Washington, Pennsylvania, in 1965. He retired from the college in 2002.
He is survived by his maternal aunt, Lola H. Knight; his brother, G. Wayne Taylor and his wife, Peggy; nephews, Guy "Pete" Taylor and Andrew Taylor; as well as cousins, Virginia G. Leake and Charles B. Goddin. He is also survived by other cousins and some very loyal and faithful friends including his friend from college, Eugene DeAnzorena of Alexandria, Virginia, Larry Martindale of Charlottesville, Virginia; and a niece, Teresa Bryant.
The Professor, as he was affectionately known by his students, loved to travel and visited many countries, often accompanied by some of his students.
A graveside funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, May 29, 2008, at Riverview Cemetery.
Services will be conducted by his cousin, the Reverend Parker Leake of Dandridge, Tennessee. The family will visit friends immediately following the service at graveside.
