Douglas Eugene Ladd, 74, of Charlottesville, passed away on Tuesday, February 9, 2016. 

He was born on May 22, 1941, in Cismont, to the late Edward Washington Ladd and Patsy Jane Estes Ladd. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley Ann Hicks Ladd, who was the love of his life. He was also predeceased by his siblings, Lorene Dollins, Florence Moyer, Edward W. Ladd, Jr., and George Ladd.

He is survived by his children, Douglas "Eddie" Ladd, Gloria Ann Ward, James "Jimmy" Naylor and his wife, Carol, and Timothy "Tim" Naylor and his wife, Buffy. He is also survived by his siblings, Lewis Ladd, Roy Ladd, Annie Mae Carpenter, and Betty Allen; and by seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, along with many friends and extended family.

Douglas was always a hard worker and took pride in all that he did. He worked for many years as a Caterer for MCL Corp. / Foods of all Nations, before his eventual retirement. When not at work, he enjoyed playing poker and bingo, and in earlier years softball and bowling, and was known to make an attempt at a game of golf, and could often be found with a bag of popcorn or another snack in hand.

After the passing of his wife, he continued to be social with friends both old and new and particularly enjoyed visits from Class of 1959 Albemarle High School classmates, who made an extra effort to stay connected, Penny Rea in particular.

His family extends the sincere and heartfelt thanks to all the staff, and in particular the staff of Unit Three, at Golden Living of Charlottesville for their kind and devoted care during Douglas' stay.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 11, 2016, at the Golden Living of Charlottesville, 1242 Cedars Court, Charlottesville VA 22903. Please call Margaret at the Golden Living with any questions.He will be interred on Friday, May 6, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Holly Memorial Gardens.
