William Byron Smith - Class Of 1958

William Byron Smith Sr., 72, of Batesville, Virginia, died at his residence on Saturday, December 22, 2012.

He was born on February 7, 1940, the only son of the late William Emmanuel Smith and Phyllis Graves.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother-in-law, R. Gayle Miller; and two sisters-in-law, Madeline Alexander and Ann Miller. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Judy Miller Smith of Batesville; one daughter, Sandra Carol Smith of Batesville, Virginia; one son, William Byron Smith Jr. and wife, Alice, of Indianapolis, Indiana; two grandsons, Benjamin Wade Smith of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Jacob Gabriel Smith of Batesville, Virginia; in-laws, Adeline and Conrade Guthrie of Waynesboro, Virginia; three nieces, two nephews, and many friends.

He was a lifelong resident of Batesville and an active member and Deacon of the Mount Ed Baptist Church in Batesville, Virginia. He was a great worker in the church and community, handyman and lover of old cars. He owned his own company of installation of drapes and blinds.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 26, 2012, at the Mount Ed Baptist Church in Batesville with Dr. Ronald J. Nickell. Interment will be held at a later date. Anderson Funeral Home is in charge if arrangements.
