Samuel Patteson Clarke (1966)
Alma Wood Herring, 66, of Albemarle County, passed away at home on Sunday, Dec. 25, 2005, after an extended illness.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Gerald Allison Herring; one daughter, Kim Herring Rutland of Harrisonburg; a son, Christopher Scott Herring; one brother, Bernard J. Wood Jr.; one sister, Laura Ann Spencer; and three granddaughters.
She was retired from State Farm Insurance Company after many years of service. She was a devoted wife and mother, who enjoyed cooking, gardening and spending time with her family. She was a member of Free Union Baptist Church.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, at Spring Hill Baptist Church, in Albemarle County, with the Rev. Josh Shifflett officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive family and friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005, at the Ryan Funeral Home, Quinque.
The family suggest memorial contributions be made to the Hospice of the Piedmont, 2200 Old Ivy Road, Suite 200, Charlottesville, VA 22903.
