Gene A. Clements

Gene A. Clements, beloved eldest son of the late Lacy B. Clements Sr. and Fannie J. Clements, died on Saturday, February 6, 2010, at his home.

Born on June 16, 1939, in Albemarle County, he liked to tell of attending a one room school at Arrowhead for one year prior to the opening of Red Hill Elementary School. He graduated from Albemarle High School and began his career at State Farm Insurance Company in Charlottesville. Starting as an app file clerk, he also worked in the fledgling computer department, as an Underwriter for Southwest Virginia and ending his career in the data processing department.

Gene had a deep love of computers and programming, was an avid collector of literature, especially of poetry, southern writers, and Civil War history, and was a passionate collector of oil lamps.

Gene was a member of the Army Reserve, taking his boot camp training at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He attended classes at University of Virginia and Piedmont Virginia Community College and graduated from James Madison University in December of 1990 with a BS degree in finance while working full time.

Gene was preceded in death by two brothers, Lacy B. Clements Jr. and Steve D. Clements.

He is survived by his sister, Emma C. Coleman and her two sons, James and John Coleman; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Hanson and her children, Tammy and her husband, David, and their children, Tara, Dan and Grace, Courtney Anderson and her husband, Pete, and Ben Hanson.

Gene has been blessed to have so many caring relatives and friends. Their frequent calls, cards, prayers, and acts of kindness have made Gene's and his family's life so much more enjoyable and richer. His State Farm family has been especially faithful.

A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, February 13, 2010, at the Teague Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at a later date.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Friday, February 12, 2010, at the Teague Funeral Home.

Friends may sign the guest register at teaguefuneralhome.com.

  • "Gene and I worked many years together at State Farm. During that time we grew to be very good friends. I consider him one of my dearest friends. His smile and jokes always brighten up my day. You would not be able to find a more caring person than..." Barry Yancey (Crozet, VA)
