In Memory

Randall Shiflett - Class Of 1955

Randel Shiflett, 81, formerly of Charlottesville, Va., passed away on Sunday, July 1, 2018, at Augusta Health in Fishersville, Va.

He was born in Albemarle County to the late George Harvey Shifflett and Nelie Florence Shifflett. He was preceded in death by his brother and sisters, Ferrell Scott Shiflett, Chellie Polonitza, and Bulah Sprouse.

Mr. Shiflett proudly served his country for 7 years in the U.S. Army and Air Force branches of the military. He was employed with the CIA as a communications operative and retired after 40 years of traveling the world with the agency. To most, he was known as Randy. He had a heart of gold. You could always count on a smile on his face. He possessed a happy-go-lucky, funny, jokester personality that was larger than life. Family was the most important thing to him, both immediate and extended. He was never one to be idle and spent much of his free time pursuing his passions. You could find him almost every weekend at either an auction or estate sale, for he loved his antiques. He was an avid golfer, but took the game in stride, playing for pure enjoyment, many times with family. He would travel hours and hundreds of miles to watch either of his two grandsons play baseball or football, and would always announce that he was their proud grandad. If a song came on that he liked, you could count on his feet moving to the beat, as dancing seemed to be in his blood. He thoroughly enjoyed helping people and would go the extra mile to do so, an All-Around Mr. Nice guy. He will be lovingly remembered and missed by many.

He is survived by his loving wife, Della Whitlow Shiflett; one daughter, Renee Shiflett-Cooperrider; one son, Randy Michael Shiflett; two grandchildren, Justin T. Shiflett, (Sarah) and Dillon C. Cooperrider; two great-grandchildren, Jace M. Shiflett and Eli J. Anderson; three brothers, his twin- Ralph Shiflett, Ed Shifflett, and Sherman Shifflett; and four sisters, Ruby Scruggs, Thelma Widener, Nancy Thomas, and Linda Shifflett.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 8, 2018, at Belmont Baptist Church in Charlottesville, with the Rev. Greg Anderson officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

Friends -

Older brother, Randy (81) passed away this morning , Sunday, July 1,
2018, at the Augusta Medical Center, near Fishersville. He was living in
nearby Stuart's Draft.

Randy had a heart attack at home last Sunday. When I visited him last
Tuesday he was communicating and said he would "walk out of this place
in a few days.". Things got progressively worse, and doctors said his
heart was damaged too badly to recover. His body was cold yesterday and
we knew it wouldn't be long.

He led an interesting life for sure. Served 8 years in the military and
then spent a career working for the CIA and living/working all over the
world. Even went dancing last Saturday night. Free-spirit.

Funeral arrangements pending.

Thanks for your prayers.

Sherman -

My friend Sherman sent me message above Sunday morning, his older brother Randell passed away Sunday morning. Below is copied my response. Randell received his GED and would have graduated with the Class of 1955.

Sherman

Sorry to hear this. My prayers are with you and the family. And I pray.

Father, we know there is a time to be born, a time to live and a time to die. On this day we celebrate the life of Randy Shifflet. My prayer Lord is with the family, help them to be open to receive your love, your comfort, your blessings and your grace. God, you know when our bodies are worn and the quality of life is no more. You know the future and we do not. Help us to see things as a blessing. It is a time to open up and let our feelings show. It is alright to to share tears of sadness and tears of joy remembering the good times of Randy's life.

God, thank you for the life of Randy. I knew Randy but not that well. I know his brother Sherman much better and some of the siblings and some of the family history. As you know God, this is a family that knows how to work through hardships, how to love and how to survive. God, be with them now. Amen

Know that I send my love. Your friend,

Charles "Connie" Crenshaw
