Hensel Bently Morris - Class Of 1955


 

Hensel Bentley Morris Hensel Bentley Morris, 69, of Earlysville, died on Friday, April 18, 2008, at the University of Virginia Medical Center, of respiratory failure.

Hensel was born on April 24, 1938, to the late Daniel S. Morris Sr. and Laura Sheplett Morris of Free Union.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Daniel S. Morris Jr. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Charlotte Sharp Morris; a daughter, Lisa Pence and her husband, Chuck, of Goochland; a son, Jay Morris and his wife, Vicky, of Ruckersville; and three granddaughters, Sydney Pence and Amber and Rachel Morris.

Hensel was a loving and generous husband, father and "Pop" as he was affectionately called by his granddaughters.

He retired from State Farm Insurance Companies in 1997 after 43 years of service.

His retirement years were spent tending the family farm where he loved working with cattle and being outdoors to enjoy the scenic Blue Ridge Mountain views surrounding the home place where he grew up. As an avid motorcyclist he traveled thousands of miles during his lifetime and cherished Sunday excursions in the mountains of West Virginia and Virginia. His most recent motorcycle riding adventures took him to Nova Scotia and Newfound-land.

Hensel was a faithful member of the Elks Lodge #389, the Moose, and the Free Union Jr. Order of United American Mechanics.

He will be remembered by many as strong spirited, hard working, a loyal friend, and one who loved and lived life to the fullest.

The family wishes to express their thanks and gratitude to Dr. Hess and staff at the UVA Health System Division of Hematology/Oncology as well as to the members of the Medical Intensive Care Unit, Surgical Intensive Care Unit, and Palliative Care services for their support and compassion during Hensel' s illness.

A memorial service will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday, April 21, 2008 at Good Shepherd of the Hills Episcopal Church in Boonesville. Burial services for the family will be conducted in private at Holly Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 3 until 4 p.m. Sunday, April 20, 2008, at Teague Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial contributions "In memory of Hensel B. Morris" be made to the Elks Lodge #389 at 389 Elk Drive, Charlottesville, Virginia 22911 or the Charlottesville/Albemarle Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 160, Charlottesville, Virginia 22902, or your favorite charity.
