William Leo Shiflett, 72, a resident of Mt. Sidney, died at his home on Thursday, April 3, 2008. He was born on March 22, 1936, in Albemarle County and was the son of the late Kemper and Cora Frazier Shiflett. Mr. Shiflett graduated from Albemarle County High School and lived the majority of his life in Albemarle and Augusta Counties.

Before retiring from the poultry business he was a supervisor and general manager for Shen-Mar, Rocco, and Pilgrim' s Pride. On December 21, 1957, he married Betty G. Shiflett, who survives.

 He is also survived by a daughter, Tammy S. Thornton and her husband, Charles H. of Jefferson, Maryland; a son, Troy W. Shiflett of Forrestville, North Carolina; three grand- children, Alena Rae Shiflett, Anna Marie and James Robert Thornton; one brother, Earl Shifflett of Crozet; five sisters, Joyce Wood, Juanita Garrison, and Dorothy McAllister all of Crozet, Bonnie and Connie Gibson, both of Charlottesville.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Daniel, David, Vernon, and Roger Shifflett.

The family will receive friends from 3 until 5 p.m. Sunday, April 6, 2008, at the Lindsey Funeral Home in Weyers Cave. A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday, April 7, 2008, at Prizehill Church in Boonesville, Virginia, with the Reverend Gail Thornberry officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
