Emma Hudson (Young) - Class Of 1954



Emma Hudson Young of Scottsville, born June 29, 1936, completed her earthly journey on Thursday, October 8, 2012.

She was born and raised in Albemarle County to Thomas P. Hudson Jr. and Emma Agnes Clements Hudson. She attended Red Hill School and was in the first graduating class at Albemarle High School. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church at Red Hill.

After high school she worked locally at M. C. Thomas furniture and radio station WINA before marrying Edward H. Young Jr. They moved to Pennsylvania where Emma entered college and became a registered nurse. She enjoyed nursing and spent her final 12 years at Martha Jefferson Hospital in their CCU. She also gave equal love to her two dachshunds - Wags and Wiggle.

She was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Ruby H. Amiss; two brothers, Thomas Hudson and Samuel Jackson Hudson; her husband, Edward H. Young Jr.; her son, Edward H. Young III and her beloved pets. Type II diabetes and chronic renal failure ended her earthly journey.

She leaves to cherish her memory four sisters; Julia H. Moses and husband Harold of Madison, Virginia, Mabel H. Brown and husband, Harvey, of Charlottesville, Virginia, Ester H. Wood and husband, Leroy T. Wood, of North Garden, Virginia, Patsy H. NeSmith and her husband, Marion Julius NeSmith, of Snellville, Georgia; a sister-in-law, Irene R. Hudson; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; a devoted friend, Charlotte Tomlin; other friends, Libby Palmer with whom she worked with at the hospital, Flossie Harris, a neighbor from Brookhaven, Pennsylvania and Ann W. Huffman and Joyce C. Hicks with whom she shared many good times together.

A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, November 10, 2012, in the Chapel of Hill and Wood Funeral Home with Suzanne Hylton-Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens.
