Karen Mae Pritt - Class Of 1967

Karen Mae Pritt Shifflett, 55, departed this life Sunday, Oct. 30, 2005, at the Martha Jefferson Hospital, surrounded by her family, after a long battle with cancer, that was diagnosed in the year 2000.

Born Nov. 6, 1949, in Albemarle County, the daughter of the late Sherman Alfred Pritt and Alzura Roach Pritt, and granddaughter of Lively Wilson Roach.

Karen is survived by her husband, Charles Shifflett, Sr. of Crozet; two brothers, Joseph Pritt and his wife, Patricia Gail, of Ruckersville, and Jerry Pritt of State Farm, Virginia; two sisters, Marilyn Wood and her husband Eddie and Carolyn Bryant of Crozet; she is also survived by three step-sons, Charles L. Shifflett Jr., Robert "Robbie " and Christopher; seven grandchildren, Jade, Johanna, Jonathan, Catherine, Kayla, Alyse and Peter; five nieces, Kim Morris, Allison Wood, Jessica Bryant, Jill Bryant, Denise Pritt; five nephews, Chad Wood, Matthew Pritt, Jonathan Bryant, Joey Moneymaker, and Jerry Moneymaker by marriage and numerous cousins.

Karen graduated from Albemarle High School, beginning her working career at Acme Visible Records, Inc., and retired from the County of Albemarle Circuit Court after twenty-eight years of service.

Karen was a member of the Victory Hill Church of God (formerly known as Crozet Church of God) where she served as Clerk, a Sunday School teacher of all ages from infants through Adult classes; Ladies Ministers officers; Family Training officers. She often worked "behind scenes" if asked by individuals for suggestions on whatever project or event they may have been working on. Only those individuals would know who helped with some of those suggestions. During her lifetime, church was her life as well as being with family and friends. She loved to have dinners and entertain.

The greatest joy, other than church work, was attending the sports events of her nephew Chad Wood. No one was better than Chad according to her way of thinking (even though she would admit they may have been almost as good.) She also enjoyed greatly the times that she had to spend with Allison and with Allison calling her many nights just to talk. Allison was a great help to her. Allison and Chad were like her own two children. Eugene Brown, of Waynesboro, was the first baby she helped her mother baby sit and she always considered him her "little boy".

Karen and her family want to thank all of her family and friends who helped her during her illness. Special thanks go out to all her doctors, nurses on South 7 at Martha Jefferson Hospital and to Dr.Pritchard and Dr. Morris and their staff. She could go on and on but naming all individuals would get lengthy.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, 2005, at Victory Hill Church of God, with interment at the Mount Moriah Methodist Church Cemetery, White Hall. with the Rev. Stephen Mills, H. Wayne , the Rev. Collier and Curtis Morris will officiate.

Visitation will be held at Anderson Funeral Home in Crozet, from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2005, Family and friends may also meet at the home of Marilyn Wood in Crozet.

Anderson Funeral Home in Crozet is in charge of arrangements.
