In Memory

Joseph J. "Jack" Birckhead - Class Of 1967

Joseph Jackson "Jack" Birckhead
Joseph Jackson “Jack” Birckhead, Jr. of Palmyra, passed away at his residence, Low Voltage Farm in the early hours of January 8, 2017. He is preceded in death by his loving parents, Joe and Anne Birckhead.

Left to survive, without his laughing and loving nature is his only child, his“lil Hoot Owl,” Angie Peyton of Gordonsville along with her husband, “Al” Peyton. Also, forever cherishing his memory are his two grandsons, Ean and Evan Peyton. He was so very proud of his “buddies,” Gale Emory, his faithful companion and “Squirrell of over 22 years survives.” JoAnne Birckhead, John David Birckhead and Barry, (Stacy), Birckhead, his sister and brothers and a host of nieces and nephews and cousins, also, are left to mourn this huge loss.

Jack’s early life was lived in Albemarle County. Some of his fondest memories were growing up on Ellerslie Farm. He graduated from Albemarle High School in 1967 and pursued an electrical engineering degree from Blue Ridge Community College. Jack was very proud to work for and help run his father’s company, Birckhead Electric, and ultimately becoming owner. Jack was well-known for his meticulous and stellar work. Jack loved to hunt and fish in his younger life and had a million stories to tell of all of his adventures doing so. Jack became a lover of the golf game in the 1980’s and enjoyed playing with friends, old and new. Jack was an avid lover of classic country music and was never shy to share his singing abilities with all who would listen. Jack was always one for a good laugh.

His greatest and most important accomplishment was his family. He was always quick with an “I love you” and a hug. He wanted his family to know how much he loved them and constantly spoke with pride of them all, especially his daughter, son-in-law and grandsons. His love for all his family was genuine and never waving. “The Hare” will be missed.

Funeral services will be 2 PM Saturday, January 14, 2017 at the Hill & Wood Chapel with Allen “Rocky” Birckhead officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service.
